Trujillo is the second largest city in Peru, was founded by Diego de Almagro in December 1534, near the capital of the Chimu kingdom. The design and planning is done according to the Spanish convention in checkerboard design style, taking the square as a focal point.
Just 5 miles south of Trujillo, is located the Temples of the Sun and the Moon, corresponding to the Moche kingdom. The other historical symbol is Chan Chan, the largest clay city in the world, capital of the Chimu kingdom. Heading north to Chiclayo is located Huaca El Brujo which together with the Lady of Cao is the brand new circuit of the Moche culture.
